The Children’s Worker will play a key role in supporting the life of Westminster Quaker Meeting by coordinating, planning, and leading weekly Children’s Meetings. The postholder will create a welcoming and nurturing environment where children of all ages can explore Quaker values, history, and worship through creative, engaging, and age-appropriate activities. Working closely with the Children & Young People’s Committee and supported by volunteers, the Children’s Worker will help foster a sense of belonging, spiritual growth, and joy for children within the Meeting community.

- Contract: Freelance
- Hours: Sundays 10.30–12.30 (plus planning), approx. 3–4 hrs/week, shared with the other regular children’s worker (total of 46 weeks per year).
- Fee: £50 per session, invoiced quarterly
- Location: Westminster Quaker Meeting House, 52 St Martin’s Lane, London WC2N 4EA (with occasional local trips)
Key Responsibilities
- Welcome families and Children on arrival to the meeting from 10:30am on a Sunday, allowing parents to hand-over and gather into the meeting.
- Deliver creative and engaging activities during Sunday Meeting for Worship (11am–12pm), helping children of all ages explore Quaker values, history, and current topics in the Meeting.
- Welcome newcomers and support children to share their activities with the wider Meeting.
- Work with parents and carers, including permissions for trips and awareness of any health or support needs.
- Reflect and report on the children’s programme, sharing feedback, attendance records, and examples of children’s work with the children’s co-ordinator.
- Stay informed about guidance and resources from Britain Yearly Meeting’s Children & Young People’s Team.
- Maintain excellent safeguarding and health & safety practice at all times.
Requirements:
- Experience leading children’s activities and working with a wide age range
- Creativity, good organisation, and excellent communication skills
- Sympathy with Quaker values and practice
- Self-employed status (UTR required)
- Willingness to apply for DBS check through Quaker provider. The position is conditional on successful completion of the check.
